    Summer Project 2009

    June 26th - July 3rd Artist in Residence Jeroen Mourik will spend one week at the Mbiiriizi Primary School in Masaka (Uganda) creating a Festival Spectacle with the 1,000+ pupils of the school.

    The spectacle will celebrate Uganda and American culture on behalf of Sylvia’s Children, a charity based in the USA.

    Festival Spectacles

    Festival Spectacles by Jeroen Mourik are theatrical dance performances by members of a community.

    Artist in Residence, Jeroen Mourik, creates choreographies with local children and young people, at schools, sport clubs and community groups for festivals and special events.

    Most productions involve more than 400 participants and the rehearsal time with the performers (the local children and young people) is seldom more than 3 hours.

The Concept

The development of the concept of the Festival Spectacle is still in its early stages. Obviously, I shall be adding ideas and incubating the various creative elements over the next few months.

Since Sylvia asked me to celebrate both the cultures of Uganda and USA and look for fusion where possible, the input from American members of our group is obviously very valuable to me, since I am neither from Uganda or the USA.
